Train for Survival or for a Fair Fight?

I have met a lot of people that wish to learn to fight in a dignified and fair manner. We keep forgetting that we should be learning to protect ourselves against animals.

I get this question a lot. How do you fight against many people at once, how do you fight against people with weapons?

I doubt any instructor would dare to give a "solution" to these answers. For students can instinctively understand the chaos of these situations, as compared to structured training/sparring or even competitive sparring.

My answer have always been, "Be prepared to die. Once you have accepted it, you are a lot more liberated to react, and then I pray that your training has been realistic enough to prepare  you for situations like this."
